It is almost impossible to FIND wood in New Delhi, India: all the wood is used for cooking or heating (nights can be very chilly in January). Kraaijeveld DID find some pieces: hidden somewhere in a sewer tube: he took one small piece, and left the rest for the owner...
With the help of Bhupender, a local craftsman, Kraaijeveld was able to source some very nice pieces of old wood. On the outskirts of this very large city, near the scrapyards, people are making ´new´ wood out of old wooden beams: the painted top layer is sawn off, exposing the fresh wood.
The pieces that are sawn off are sold as firewood. Kraaijeveld was able to buy 20 kilograms of very nice, old, painted wood. Not for a fire.....for his artwork.....
